Naming
Naming agency: a name that holds over time, and that is yours
A name is chosen once and carried for years. It must be easy to say, memorable after one encounter, distinct in its market, and above all available: as a trademark, as a domain, as a company name.
Raivière creates names for brands, companies, products and services, in Morocco, Europe and internationally, with a method that runs from strategy to registration.
01
What a naming agency actually does
Finding a name is not a creativity contest. It is strategy work (what the name must say, to whom, against whom), creation (hundreds of candidates, not ten), selection (criteria written before starting) and verification (legal, linguistic, digital).
A naming agency delivers a name that passes those four filters. A generator delivers a list.
02
The method, in five steps
1. Brief and platform: positioning, territory, audiences, competitors, constraints (languages, markets, product classes).
2. Creative territories: three to five argued directions (evocative, descriptive, invented, compound), each with examples.
3. Generation and selection: several hundred candidates reduced to a shortlist of ten to fifteen names, scored against the brief.
4. Checks: trademark availability in the classes and countries targeted (OMPIC in Morocco, INPI in France, EUIPO in Europe, WIPO internationally), domain names and social handles, connotations in the languages of the target markets.
5. Recommendation and filing: three finalists presented with their story, pronunciation and identity potential, then support through registration with our intellectual property partners.
03
What makes a good name
Short, or at least fluid. Pronounceable in every language of your markets, with no awkward double meaning. Distinct from the names already in your category. Open: it must outlive your first offer and your first country. And available, which eliminates most attractive ideas at the first check.
The best name is not the one everyone likes in the meeting. It is the one nobody can take from you.
04
Timeline and budget
A complete naming project takes three to six weeks: one week of framing, two to three of creation and selection, one to two of checks and recommendation. Trademark filing follows its own calendar depending on the office.
Budget depends on scope: number of markets and languages, classes to check, identity to follow. Naming is part of our Start, Studio and Tailored packages; it can also run on its own.
05
After the name
A name only truly exists once an identity carries it: a logo, a voice, a website, a presence. Raivière continues naturally into the brand platform, verbal and visual identity and guidelines, then the website and tools. One journey, no meaning lost between steps.
FAQ
What is a naming agency?
An agency specialised in creating names for brands, companies, products or services, with a method covering strategy, creation, selection and legal and linguistic checks before registration.
How long does a naming project take?
Three to six weeks in general, from brief to final recommendation. Legal checks and trademark filing can extend the calendar depending on the countries targeted.
How many name proposals do we receive?
Hundreds of candidates are generated internally; you see a shortlist of ten to fifteen names scored against your criteria, then three verified, argued finalists.
Do you check trademark availability?
Yes. We check availability in the targeted classes and countries (OMPIC, INPI, EUIPO, international databases), domain names and social handles, and support the filing with our intellectual property partners.
Naming versus branding: what is the difference?
Naming creates the name. Branding builds everything the name carries: positioning, visual and verbal identity, experience. Naming is the first stone of branding, not a substitute.
Do you work in several languages?
Yes. We create and check in French, English, Spanish and Arabic, with particular attention to connotations and pronunciation in each target market.
